Locals

Strategy: Build on what locals are already doing at the Promenade, and what they wish there was more of!

During the day locals are typically either strolling with friends, working out, surfing, or going to the beach. In the evening the Promenade is not really optimized as a destination, but could and should be with dining, wine and beach bars.

This can also be a local’s destination for staycations and spa days.

Visitors

Strategy: Open new thoughtfully-designed luxury hotel that feels like a beach town getaway with amazing views, and walking distance to our various districts downtown.

The new Promenade can be the starting point for visitors staying over night. From here not only can they enjoy the beach and dining options right outside their hotel, they can walk to historic Main Street, Detour District, Cultural District, Arts District, and parks.

The Downtown Specific Plan Already Envisioned This

“Ventura’s beach area is one of its greatest attractions and offers some of the premier surfing in California. However, no shops or restaurants front on and activate the beach.

Instead, the pedestrian walk is defined primarily by a parking structure and private condominiums. The Promenade itself was developed in the 1970s and is dated.

The area between the newly renovated Crowne Plaza hotel and the pier, including the parking structure and parking lot should be considered for redevelopment with visitor-serving uses and provisions for public access.

Renovate the Pierside Promenade and beachfront area to enhance the Downtown waterfront’s appeal as a recreational destination.”

Let’s get back to our original goals in the Downtown Specific Plan and make The Promenade the beach destination it was always meant to be.
